Newcastle Museum
About Newcastle Museum
Located in the historic Honeysuckle Railway workshops, the vibrant and welcoming Newcastle Museum opened to the community on 4 August 2011. It is more than simply a re-invention of the original Newcastle Regional Museum, which was founded in 1988 as a Bicentennial project and located in Newcastle West. The new Museum is a reinvigorated, contemporary centre that brings new exhibitions and experiences in a centre designed to provide efficient and sustainable services as well as appealing and accessible programs.
Newcastle’s people and stories are explored in A Newcastle Story, which also delves into the natural environment. In Fire and Earth, the industrial heart of the Hunter is unveiled, showcasing the region’s major industries. Supernova focuses on interactive exhibits that challenge and engage people of all ages, with a strong emphasis on science, maths, and engineering. The Museum also offers a variety of temporary and travelling exhibitions throughout the year, ensuring that visitors are always presented with something new and interesting, from blockbuster shows to community-based displays.
